We have a winner!
Congratulations to Risa Lapidow, who won the contest to name a new shade of Sheila Rovelstad’s luscious Wüllenstudio Sock Yarn, all colorways of which are named after songs. The contest was open only to members of the Tangled Skein Ravelry group. The winning entry: “Tangled Up in Blue,” a Bob Dylan song. “Everything reminds me of a Dylan song,” says Risa, a Sit-and-Stitch regular. The judges were impressed by the way that Risa managed to find a song that combined the yarn color and a reference to the name of the shop. Risa won a skein of the yarn and a set of Wüllenstudio stitch markers. “This is way too cool,” Risa says. “I never win anything.” You can view all the entries by visiting the shop’s Ravelry group.

Join our Friday summer reading program
Maybe they’re not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of beach reading (although we have some autographed copies of Maggie Sefton’s Dropped Dead Stitch that are a great fit for your lounge chair), but knitting and crochet books are terrific vacation companions, perfect for summer projects, planning your fall and winter adventures, or just for daydreaming. So on every Friday this summer, starting June 26, when you buy one book, you can buy another of equal or lesser value for half price. New books arrive almost every day, so stop by on Fridays frequently.

Summer finishing
No, no, there’s plenty of warm weather left. What we mean is that we’ll have finishing classes throughout the summer, so you can complete your pending projects and move on to something new. Jennifer Woods will hold her popular two-hour finishing workshops from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2, and Sunday, Sept. 6. As always, Jennifer will cover blocking, sewing up seams, weaving in ends and other finishing details. This is not about picking up stitches or knitting neckbands but about applying details that will transform your UFO into a finished article that someone will be delighted to wear. The cost is only $20, but advance reservations are required.
