Thanks to all yarn crawlers, congratulations to prize winner

Congratulations to Trisha Bullock, winner of the drawing for a $100 gift certificate from A Tangled Skein! Seven-year-old Caitlin Noyes, daughter of sales associate Jessica Noyes (pictured below), selected Trisha’s entry card from among all the participants in the Metro Yarn Crawl who had at least seven stamps on their cards and deposited their cards with us. And thanks to everyone who visited our shop during the crawl, held April 9–17. It was a wonderful event, and we feel we made a lot of new friends. Special thanks go to Danielle Romanetti, owner of Fibre Space in Alexandria, Va., who created the event and did all the heavy lifting. Now it’s time to begin planning for next year’s crawl!

Janel Laidman shawlette knit-along to benefit Japan begins April 13

Starting tomorrow at our evening Sit and Stitch, Arthella Posey will host a knit-along using a shawlette pattern designed by Janal Laidman, author of The Eclectic Sole and The Enchanted Sole. All sales of the pattern, named Eiki (meaning strength or courage in Japanese) will go to relief efforts in Japan–Laidman will make donations through the Japanese Red Cross, the American Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders. We’ll donate all profits from the sale of yarn for the knit-along (please tell the sales associate ringing you up that you’re buying yarn for the Eiki pattern) to the Red Cross, and our donation will be matched by Knitting Fever, one of our largest distributors. The pattern can be found at www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/eiki-strength—profits-go-to-relief-efforts-in-japan, and must be purchased by April 30.

Stitch and Pitch, plus we’re moving Friday the 13th

Here’s a sign that spring is finally here: It’s time to get your tickets for Stitch and Pitch at Nationals Park.

The annual knit-in-public event, part of a program sponsored by The National NeedleArts Association, will take place this year on Friday, May 13. The game, starting at 7:05 p.m., will feature the Nats versus the Florida Marlins.

Tickets this year will cost $23. That’s an increase from last year, but the seats are better–left field mezzanine–and for the first time are on the same level as the Needlework Expo. The expo, in Conference Rooms 3 and 4, will feature vendors and instruction. This year, vendors will include Sanguine Gryphon, Dragonfly Fibers, Neighborhood Fiber Company and Solitude. The expo will be open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

We will have tickets in the shop after April 22, but we’d appreciate it if you’d reserve your tickets as soon as possible. Prepayment will guarantee you a ticket, since we’re being very conservative this year about the number of tickets we request (we have to pay the full amount–we make no profit on Stitch and Pitch tickets). Call us at 301-779-3399 or stop by the store.

Here’s another important announcement: because the only Friday the 13th of 2011 falls on the night as the game, we’re moving our party and sale (everything in the shop will be 20 percent off from 9 p.m. to midnight) one week later, to May 20. We promise that despite the date change we’ll have the same Friday the 13th spirit–and lots of refreshments.

Silk Garden Lite is back, Imperial Stock Ranch is new

It’s back by popular demand! We’re talking about Noro’s Silk Garden Lite, the gorgeous silk (45 percent). mohair (45 percent) and lamb’s wool (10 percent) whose discontinuation caused dismay throughout the fiber world. So Noro revived the yarn, and we’ve got it in eight new colorways. Look for it next time you’re in the shop.

A speaking of new arrivals, don’t miss the yarns and patterns from Imperial Stock Ranch, the only privately held ranch in Oregon recognized as a National Historic District. This is U.S.-produced yarn from the ranch’s own flock of Columbia sheep, custom milled without harsh chemicals or extreme temperatures. It’s comfortable, soft and pure, specially dyed to reflect the ranch’s unique high-desert landscape. Check out the yarns at www.imperialyarn.com, then come and see what we have at A Tangled Skein. Currently in stock is Columbia two-ply, a heavy worsted, Tracie, a sport weight yarn, and bulky two-strand pencil roving.
