Evening entrelac class canceled, Christmas stockings rescheduled
There are two changes to our October class list that you should know about. We must cancel Pat Preston’s Entrelac in the Evening class, originally scheduled to start on Oct. 13. We will try to reschedule it as soon as possible. And Jennifer Woods’s Christmas Stockings class, originally scheduled to run Oct. 9, 23 and 30, will instead begin on Oct. 30 and continue Nov. 6 and 13. This Sunday afternoon class (3 to 5 p.m.) is a great opportunity not only to create a wonderful family heirloom but also to learn sock knitting painlessly–the construction is basically the same as sock construction but there’s only one required, and it doesn’t have to fit anyone, not even Santa!
There are still spots available in several other classes this month. Jennifer Noyes’s Hat Party! gets under way on Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. and continues on Oct. 18 and 25. This is the perfect class for those looking to learn how to knit in the round. If you’re available on Thursday afternoons, you’ll want to take Pat Preston’s February Lady Sweater class. It will help you learn a lace stitch and give you a fashionable cool weather garment in the bargain. The class meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 and 20 and Nov. 3. And there are just a few slots left in Arthella Posey’s Lilas Cardigan class, which meets on four Thursday evenings–Oct. 20 and 27 and Nov. 3 and 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. This chic sweater by Hilary Smith Callis is knit top down and requires no seaming.
There’s also room in our basic classes this month. Beginning Knitting with Cheryl Hoffman meets on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. The next class starts Oct. 23 and continues Oct. 30, Nov. 6 and Nov. 13. The shorter Quick Start version of beginning knitting, taught by Evey Pinhkam, will be on Tuesday evenings, Oct. 18 and 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. Beginning Crochet with Edna Paulson is taught on Saturday afternoons from 4 to 6 p.m. The next classes are Oct. 22 and 29 and Nov. 5. And our monthly Finishing Workshop, led by Jennifer Woods is on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. this month.
More details on our classes, and the prices, can be found by selecting Classes at A Tangled Skein in the menu bar on the left. As always, advance reservations are required for all classes.

Dream in Color Club yarn and pattern for October
The Dream in Color Club yarn for October is a soft, luxurious wool-mohair blend. This handwash-only yarn is $36—consider it an affordable luxury. The pattern, free with purchase, is Momijigari, a gorgeous one-skein shawl designed by Beth Kling. In case you missed last month’s launch announcement, here’s how the Dream in Color Club works: Every month from September through March (skipping December) the folks at Dream in Color, makers of the wonderful Starry and Smooshy yarns, will be sending us 10 skeins of hand-dyed yarn and a pattern to go with the yarn. Once we’ve sold all 10 skeins, the yarn will not be restocked. The yarn type and colorway will vary each month, as will the price. As close to the beginning of the month as possible we’ll post the name of the yarn and a picture of the pattern. Availability will be first-come, first-served, so as soon as you can, stop by the shop or call us with a credit card to reserve your yarn and pattern. The pattern can be e-mailed to you, or you can pick up a black-and-white copy at the shop.
